Documents: Why Is There A Need To Find Meaning in Everything?
(2017)
3-Channel Video Installation (1:00 loop)
Installation for NYU Tisch BFA Senior Thesis
Created by Aaron Kho
Installation for Opening Night
In our multi-faceted, highly distractible world, the constant inundation of visual imagery and the rapidity in information transmission forces us to take in one content and quickly maneuvering ourselves to the next, without time to properly reflect and absorb its ideas and contents in entirety. I question the conundrum behind active and passive viewership through the choices we make upon comprehending contents in the 3-channel video installation. The dichotomy between objective gazing and interacting with the contents compels us to develop active choices on what we prefer to focus on.
The specificity of the materials chosen embodies a blending of the personal and the public, telling the story of society at large, while also presenting an autobiography of the artist himself. Pop culture, politics, advertisements and random banality in these video installations are presented as documents to give us a slice of 2016. As the artist arranges the documents in a relatively structured order, our curious minds digs deeper to make sense of the chaos of 2016.
